As if the last nineteen months of 2020/21 weren't strange enough, things got a little stranger at the Mail Exchange
hotel. The Punters Club members walked away with $200 dollars each and smile, with each of our bellies full of beer and food, plus another $900 for the Casino.
The first strange occurrence was that we actually got some money back. The second thing was none of new how to react. We sat there in stunned silence, looking at each other in disbelief while thinking if this is a dream don't wake us up. The silence was broken with the unusual question that we have rarely heard ' what do we now that we have won'? No one had the answer, as I looked around the room at the stunned faces, the odd tear. Alas the silence was broken with the classic line of, hurry there is still one more race in Sydney to go.
The day started out in typical fashion no collects in the first four races. Then from out of nowhere we had our first win, $1340. Open hands were raised as numerous high fives were given, and then the one who ( this may or may not be true) the other members called 'The Champ' got up and done a lap of the table for some more very well deserved high fives.
Then things went back to normal for the next 3 races, when again from no where, a lot like Round 16 2001, Essendon v Nth Melbourne,( GO BOMBERS) we made a comeback, maybe not on that scale but to us it was even bigger and definitely better. A $500 plus return on a quaddie that's right a QUADDIE well done to the mighty quaddie duo. Then shorty followed by a great $1200 pick up from our very own multi specialist. Another $1700 dollars more hi fives and laps of the table. A few more beers then it was off to the house of pain.
All in all another great day and looking forward to another year of punting.
