As we all know 2020 has been a different type of year, not only for the worlds population with this virus but also the punters club. We actually managed to win some decent money this year during the punting season on the day thats a different story, but not a horror story as in past years.
A couple of days out from the main event we had two late scratchings, one with burst appendix (get well soon Phil) which is a reasonable excuse for not making it to the pub. The other scratching was on holiday this left a lot of the other members shaking their head. With our moto 'PUNTERS CLUB BEFORE EVERYTHING ELSE' totally disregarded. If we were a patched up club patches would be removed.
Having said that we had a worthy replacement in 'Kiwi' , it cannot be said now that we aren't an inclusive and multicultural club.
Kiwi was put under pressure with the first bet of the day and unlike the great horse KIWI our Kiwi led from the front backing the first bet he put on, we were in uncharted waters now, having a win this early in the day was unusual, looking around faces were blank, questioning eyes ' what do we do now'. Alas this was short lived we soon found our usual form not backing a winner for a while, this seemed to calm everyone down, we were back in familiar territory.
Later in the day quaddie wise, we put four quaddies on and again we entered unfamiliar territory again, we actually got the first leg in three quaddies. In the endow got about 30% of the Melbourne quaddie and just missed a big collect in Adelaide. We finished the day with a nice collect from our newest member this year Scotty, and another couple of hundred when we were out on the street finishing up the day.
Once again a great day of beer, food, betting and good company.
Bring on the 2020/2021 punting season.
